Manihiki Island located in the northern group of the Cook Islands lies 1160 kilometers north of Rarotonga. Experience Polynesia as it was 50 years ago with your visit to Manihiki, one of the Pacific's most beautiful atolls. Experience an island very few people have ever visited. The flying time is approximately 4 hours in a small turboprop aircraft and flights operate only once per week. A larger aircraft is expected to be on line in the near future. Manihiki's lagoon is straight out of a story book with many motu of islets, strung along the reef which are always warm and the marine life is brightly colored. There is excellent swimming, snorkeling and diving.

Choice of accommodation on the island includes staying with a local family, or a private beach bungalow. Your host can arrange a visit to a pearl farm, an excursion to the neighboring villages, or teach you how to gather "paua" (clams). (Go to Activities) It is recommended to bring a flashlight, mosquito repellent, good walking shoes, and plenty of books to read. Also please note that your luggage allowance is 10 kilo per person (approx 22 pounds). Luggage storage may be found at the Rarotonga Airport.

There are frequent island boats from Manihiki to Rakahanga, however passage must be arranged after arriving in Manihiki. It is recommended that you allow 3 weeks if you wish to include Rakahanga in your Northern Group experience.

Rarotonga to Manihiki:: 7:00am on Tue (some weeks) and Thu
Manihiki to Rarotonga: 11:50am on Tue (some weeks) and Thu.
